As perturbations within marine ecosystems appear to increase in frequency and intensity, so may the occurrence of habitat loss, flora and fauna extinctions and the loss of the potentially important and still poorly described coral reef species. Our research involves an interdisciplinary approach between field and lab studies of ecology, genetics, and biochemistry. Specifically, the research interests of the lab are focused to better understand the intricacies linking shallow and deep water coral reef habitats and their associated assemblages. Much of this research is in regard to global warming, disease, and toxic algal blooms. |
